We are no longer accepting applications for the April 2022 PCRC Clinical Trials Intensive!
We are no longer accepting applications for the April 2022 PCRC Clinical Trials Intensive!
This three-day intensive seeks to provide a foundation in practical aspects involving the conduct of randomized clinical trials in palliative care with an emphasis of health disparities and social determinants of health. It is designed for researchers and health professionals interested in developing competence in the planning, design, and execution of palliative care-focused randomized clinical trials. Instruction will include a combination of focused lectures, small group experiential learning sessions, and individual and group consultations with experts in the field. Previous attendees have described the Intensive as an important step towards greater productivity and funding for their research.
The curriculum will enable participants to:
- Describe the principles underlying the conduct of unbiased clinical trials.
- Identify the unique challenges posed by behavioral randomized clinical trials (RCTs).
- Evaluate RCT designs in terms of their appropriateness to scientific and clinical goals.
- Select appropriate strategies for enrollment, randomization, and retention.
- Understand methods for monitoring, coordinating, and conducting RCTs.
- Develop basic strategies for appropriate statistical analyses of RCT data.
- Work with an interdisciplinary group to design an RCT on an assigned topic.
- Better understand the process used in NIH Study Sections to review clinical trials.
- Incorporate attention to health disparities and social determinants of health into clinical trial design and interpretation.
When: April 26 – 28, 2022
Where: Zoom TBD
Please note: It is essential that you are present for the entirety of the Intensive.
Questions/Troubleshooting? Please contact Naomi Gallopyn at (NGallopyn@mgh.harvard.edu)
Please note, there is a fee associated with attending the 2022 PCRC Clinical Trial Intensive.
Fees: Members $500, non-members $750.
You must already be a member in good standing as of November 30, 2021 to qualify for the member rate. For those for whom the fee will preclude them from attending, there will be an option to request a fee waiver with justification. Please state whether you will be applying for a waiver. A request for a waiver will not be known by the selection committee. More information will be provided to selected participants in March 2022 on how to submit payment.
Selection Criteria: Applicants must be PCRC members (or must apply for membership) and will be selected based on demonstrated commitment to advancing palliative care and end of life research, particularly research focusing on health disparities and social determinants of health. In addition, preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate a commitment to working with the PCRC infrastructure and to conducting PCRC-based research in the future. Reviewers will consider the potential impact of the intensive on the applicant’s career trajectory. International applicants are not eligible for this opportunity.
Selected participants will be expected to
- Actively participate in all virtual sessions of the Intensive
- Engage in continued work with the PCRC
- Update the PCRC regularly of their research progress
We do hope that you will apply for this wonderful opportunity,
